London: Black and White Publishing Company, First twelve issues of the 'Black and White (Transvaal Special)' (retitled 'Black and White Budget...' with issue No. 4), first nine issues undated, issues 10-12 dated December 16, 23, and 30, 1899. Bound in one volume: various paginations, hundreds of photographic illustrations. Contemporary three-quarter red sheep and cloth, raised bands, gilt leather label. Joints cracked, front board nearly detached, sheep scuffed and worn, contents a bit toned and occasionally smudged but generally clean. A good copy. The first year of the weekly British news magazine chronicling the Second Boer War, which began in October of 1899. The volume contains summaries of recent events and hundreds of captioned photographic and drawn images of soldiers, statesmen, landscapes, and preparations for battle. Good.
