Caliban Book Shop specializes in Literary First Editions, Fine Arts, Poetry, Exploration & Travel, Americana, Philosophy, General Scholarly, Fine Press, and Leatherbound Editions.

We maintain a large open shop of 25,000 uncatalogued volumes including rare books (like the good old days), and a warehouse of over 30,000 catalogued volumes that comprises our on-line stock. Come visit when you're in town; we're open seven days a week and near other shops. We are members of ABAA and ILAB.

We are near the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and the city's lovely art museum. We're located in a small shopping district filled with boutiques and restaurants, making for a nice promenade.

Cloth hardbound, illustrated with a frontispiece, text is clean and unmarked, 308 pp. Very good copy, wear to tips with minor fraying, rubbing to covers, some relevant clippings pasted to front endpapers (creating some offsetting). There is a vertical dent running along the center of the spine; the cloth has not been torn and the spine isn't broken, but there is a dip Inscribed by Cather's mother on the front flyleaf. 1851 edition. 70 pp. + fold-out map in rear. Hardcover, 12mo. (3.25 x 5.5"), embossed red leather with gilt title and design, all edges gilt, blue marbled endpaper at rear of text only. Covers show light wear to tips only; unmarked contents. The map measures 25" wide x 20" tall, is securely attached to the rear pastedown of the book and is in excellent condition: there is only one tiny puncture and one 2" closed tear on the right edge that affects the title of the map only; otherwise, it is clean, with vibrant colors showing the sate borders. Book is housed in a protective mylar sleeve. Digital images available upon request. A Near Fine copy in the rare, original acetate dust jacket. The rear cover of the book and of the jacket show staining from red ink or paint. Else, a clean, unmarked copy showing only slight edgewear. The jacket shows some shallow chipping along edges, resulting in maybe %10 loss. Book and jacket now protected in a mylar sleeve.
