Dated 23 June, 1821, the note contains de Beranger's thorough reply to an invitation from a Madame Clissot, in French. Old postal markings/stamps to the address panel. Small tear to one corner, else fine. Pierre-Jean de Béranger (19 August 1780-16 July 1857) was a prolific French poet and chansonnier (songwriter), who enjoyed great popularity and influence in France during his lifetime, but faded into obscurity in the decades following his death. He has been described as "the most popular French songwriter of all time" and "the first superstar of French popular music".

Title pages printed in red and black. Half leather with cloth boards, marbled edges and enpapers. With rubbing wear to the joints and corners, some straining to hinge (the rear board of volume I has been somewhat crudely reattached).
